Flint Fotballfestival

Flint Fotball is one of the largest football clubs in Norway in terms of number of teams and active players. The club is based in the city of Tønsberg, some 100 km south-west of Oslo.

The coastal climate offers optimal conditions for outdoor sport activities during the summer. Temperatures in the range 18 to 25 ºC must be expected. There is no risk of heat waves in our area.

The international airport of Sandefjord (TRF) with frequent direct connections to Spain, Germany, Italy and UK ensures easy and efficient alternatives for travel.

Based on these conditions Flint Fotball is determined to hosts some of the most attractive youth football tournaments for boys and girls in our part of Europe. These tournaments are based on a unique setup referred to as Multilevel Tournaments. Characteristic for these events is that there is only one age class in each tournament. All tournaments have one class for girls and one class for boys.

The entire concept for U12, U13 and U14 is referred to as Flint Fotballfestival. The tournaments for U13 and U14 allow for foreign clubs to participate. U12 is for Scandinavian clubs only.

Flint Fotball hosted the event first time in 2016 and the tournament has been gradually increased thereafter.

The preparations for 2025 have already started.

Headliners

In order to make the tournaments attractive also for ambitious teams in Norway and Scandinavia, we invite some esteemed clubs from UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain to participate based on special terms, for details see below.

Participation by such teams helps us boost the registration by normal teams. Therefore, it is essential that Headliners are confirmed early in the process.

BVB Dortmund, Leeds United, Leicester City, West Ham United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Boavista, Hamburger SV, RB Leipzig, Hearts, Aberdeen FC and Rangers FC are teams who have participated based on such conditions in earlier years.

International tournaments in 2024

The 2024 edition of Flint Fotballfestival was hosted in May.

In the tournament for U13 a total of 104 teams participated, amongst them Liverpool FC, Rangers, Leeds United and Chelsea Women.

The tournament for U14 counted 80 teams including Liverpool FC, Hearts, Leicester City, Boavista and Chelsea Women.

All finals had about 2,000 enthusiastic spectators at our main arena.

Tournament format

A special characteristic for our series of tournaments is that each tournament has one age class only. Also, we have developed an innovative tournament setup with a unique seeding on Day 1. This variation of Swiss tournament ensures that teams with similar levels of skill are paired and makes it possible for teams with very different levels of skill to take part in the same tournament. We refer to this concept as Multilevel Tournament.

For elite teams this setup ensures that opposition will be gradually stronger and that number of matches is predefined and match load predetermined.

  • Day 1: Seeding tournament with four short matches (1 x 20 min)
  • Day 2: Group stage with three matches (2 x 20 min)
  • Day 3: Knock-out stage with one or two matches (2 x 20 min)

The detailed tournament format for both events will be decided when the registration is completed, but it will be based on the same principled as in 2024. A detailed description can be found by clicking the link below.

Venue

Main venue for the U14 tournament is the Flint ESSO Arena with seven full scale 11v11 fields. In addition, we use the fields of our neighbour clubs as required.

In our tournament for U13 all matches will be played at our own arena with 14 fields sized 9v9.

In both events the total capacity is about 120 teams.

All matches, accommodation and dining take place in a very limited area allowing for compact games. Also, an efficient system for transportation will be provided between the venues.

Accommodation

The tournament offers different alternatives for accommodation ranging from basic accommodation on inflatable beds in local schools to hotels:

Standard Terms and Conditions

For teams from outside of Scandinavia we will normally organize everything in Norway including transit from airport, accommodation and all meals.

We are happy to compile a package including:

  • Tournament fees
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • All local transportation during the tournament
  • Transit from airport

Total tournament fees for 20 participants (e.g. 16 players and 4 staff) are from NOK 50,000 (approx. EURO 4,200) including basic accommodation and all tournament fees.

Including transit from airport and upgraded accommodation in hotel, teams must assume a total cost of NOK 100,000.

Special Terms and Conditions for Headliners

The terms and conditions for Headliners will be agreed individually. The biggest and most attractive clubs can expect that the tournament will cover 100% of the locally incurred costs for approx. 15 players and 4 staff.

This however provides that confirmation is made early in the process, typically during August or September.

Travel arrangements

Most teams relevant for this special invitation will travel by airplane and there are two possible airports:

  • Sandefjord Airport Torp (TRF) is a small international airport which is located only 30 minutes travel from the venue. This airport offers direct flights Manchester, London, Bergamo, Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Florence and more.
  • Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) is the main airport of Oslo and Norway. It is located about 90 minutes travel from the venue.

Teams must arrive on the day prior to the first day of the tournament.

If travelling out from TRF, the scheduled departure time should not be before 16:30 on the last day of the tournament.

If travelling out from OSL, the scheduled departure time should not be before 18:30 on the last day of the tournament.

We will organize transit between airport and the venue by means of dedicated coaches.
